After one of the series of 24 paintings commissioned by Marie de Medici on her life, to be painted by Peter Paul Rubens. The Marie de’ Medici Cycle is a series of twenty-four paintings that Marie, the queen of France and wife of Henry IV, commissioned from Peter Paul Rubens in 1621. They were commissioned to decorate her Luxembourg Palace in Paris and were hung in one large room so that the entire cycle could be viewed as a whole. They now hang in the Louvre in Paris.
